overlap

how we “think” cannot be separated from how we “feel.”

Aesthetics can stretch from simple color-matching, to a full blown state-of-mind setting experience.

It’s true that much of the design community is driven and inspired by intuition and experimentation. This, however, isn’t the only compass leading in the right direction toward better products.

In Defense of Eye Candy” is a fantastic article by Stephen P. Anderson , that demonstrates some profound insights on the psychological aspects of well designed products.

It includes interesting researched examples explaining how us, as humans, are subconsciously forming opinions, and develop feelings and attitudes on the base of pure aesthetic design.

No matter how we try to separate the look from the pure functionality – the mind will form the opinion by the overlapping (or lack of) qualities found in our experience.

Highly recommended!
